2020 WRAP-UP
You’ve said it. We’ve said it. Your coffee guy’s said it. Grandma’s said it. The history books definitely will say it over and over. But let’s do it one more time; yell it into a pillow even…
(Yelling out the window is also a good idea. It might scare your neighbors, though. So, only do that if you aren’t friends. Here’s looking at you, Jim.)
2020 was one heck of a year. It’s felt like at least a decade was packed into about ten months. It was everywhere, too. EVERYWHERE. It wasn’t just really bad in one town in the middle of nowhere or terrible in a few cities across the Atlantic. Nuts.
But, in the midst of this mess, we have had some incredible moments—some cultural, some awesome, and some just for those of us who got to enjoy The Block this year. Maybe, we could call this the Block Island Ferry’s Silver Linings Post-Book.
Here are a few of our favorites:
A 103-year-old woman beat COVID-19 and celebrated with a beer
People sprinted to pet adoption clinics to save and foster the animals in them
This year’s socially distanced orb hunt
The six feet of space that HAD to exist between people on the beach
Our Block Island Ferry Photo Contest — it was the best we’ve ever seen!
Yes: this pandemic is incredible—literally. It’s tough to believe that something like this could exist. Yes: the world has collectively shuddered in fear at this thing we don’t yet understand.
But, as crazy as it is, don’t you feel like we’re even more together because of it? That’s not to brush off this virus. Not even a little bit—it’s a nightmare. We are here, though. We are all in this together. From the family who owns a tea shop in Taiwan to your next-door neighbor, we’re in this together. We might never have experienced anything like this before. But we’ve done that thing humans are great at: we’ve leaned on each other, tried our best for one another, and stuck it out as best we can.
That attitude is what will get us through. That attitude’s the one we’ve employed. It’s meant the world to us. It’s almost as good as the pictures you all sent us for our photo contest!
Thank you for those!
Stay safe and sail away hopeful for the new year!
