A Block Island Winter
The changing of the seasons has always been a part of New England’s charm. Not every place gets to experience them to the same range and variety like we do. It’s one of the reasons why so many people make a point of visiting Block Island as often as they do.
Some things remain an attraction regardless of the time of year. When it comes to Block Island, it’s hard not to think about the food and unrivaled aesthetic of its local businesses.
The 1661 Inn and Victorian-inspired Avonlea act as a way to transport yourself into the past. And they aren’t alone. There are a host of restaurants that are a scenic drive — or even walk, if you’re looking for some fresh air — away. Just make sure your favorite spot is open, as a great deal of businesses tend to close up shop for a bit during the winter.
The biggest reason to visit Block Island during the wintertime is, well, Block Island during the wintertime. Those first few flakes of snow will be falling before you know it, complete with the sun shining off the fresh layer of frost spread across the ground. Feel free to take a minute when you see it. You may need to convince yourself that you’re staring at something real and not some illustration from Jesse Edwards Studio or the Spring Street Gallery.
Not only does this lead to some fantastic pictures that are well worth sharing with your friends and family, but having beautiful scenery to take in during a winter walk or hike makes a world of difference.
Of course, there’s always the option of getting away to stay in. Block Island Grocery is open all year and stocked up with whatever you need to get you through your stay. Crack open that book you’ve been meaning to read. Take advantage of the peace and serenity Block Island excels at.
There’s always something fun to do on Block Island. Whether it’s eighty-eight degrees and you’re enjoying the sun-soaked sand, or your every breath steams the air on your way to take in the majestic glow of a frost-tinged landscape.
Bundle Up, and Sail Away…
