Get Some Fresh Air…and Feel Good Too!
Nobody can blame you for feeling a bit too pent up this deep into the year. We’ve all grown more familiar with the insides of our homes and the daily goings on of our family members and loved ones than we ever expected to. So it’s incredibly important to make sure we’re staying active as much as we can. Keeping our bodies moving helps with stress while providing a well-deserved boost to both our physical and mental health.
We’re fortunate as the summer starts coming to a close that the weather on Block Island remains about as perfect as you could hope. So…where do you begin?
With 17 miles of beaches to explore, finding a tucked away spot you can have all to yourself can make going for a quiet walk or undisturbed swim that much more enjoyable. Your overall health is about more than breaking a sweat. Running along the beach and in the sand provides an entirely different feel than concrete or a treadmill. Swimming not only acts as a full-body workout, but it keeps you cool and refreshed throughout the day. This is even more important with the summer sun high in the sky.
Sometimes all it takes is spending quality time outside in the sun, the fresh ocean breeze brushing against your face. For this any outdoor activity will do. Fishing, for example, gets you out on the water and comes with the added benefit of providing some top tier Zen.
When it comes to staying active during a getaway, hiking might just be one of the biggest and most alluring past times. Clayhead Trail branches off to allow for beach access, but that’s not all. It’s also home to the Block Island staple known as The Maze. The Greenway Trails are nearly 25 miles of preserved nature. Each ranges from easy to mild to fit whatever you’re looking for.
But that’s not all! There are paths available for running and biking as well. Kayak rentals mean you can enjoy the water and surrounding scenery while getting in some solid and surprisingly sneaky upper-body exercise. There’s a good chance you’ll be too distracted by the beauty of everything around you to notice the workout.
Getting away for a bit is crucial to giving your mind and body the rest and fresh air we all so desperately need. All that’s left for you to do is say when.
Unplug…and Sail Away!
