Pets on the Block
Block Island is for the whole family. That means your pets, too! You can bring them on both the Hi-Speed and Traditional Ferries, as long they’re either in their carrier or leashed.
Pup-Prep
Your trip to Block Island starts long before you step off the ferry. That’s just as true for your pet as it is for you. You’ll want to make sure you have everything you might need to make sure your pet is having as good a time on the island as it can be. Deer ticks are fairly common in the trails crisscrossing Block Island, so it’s a good idea to treat your pet with repellant before heading over.
Packing a bag? Don’t forget the essentials. Bowls for food and water, an extra towel or two, some of their favorite toys, and a few treats are always a great place to start. Especially since you may not find many brands to choose from once you’re there.
Pet Paradise
With seventeen miles of shoreline there’s plenty of space for your pup to run around and stretch its legs. Does it like to swim? Then all those beaches will suit it even better, since all of Block Island’s beaches are dog-friendly. Oceanfront excitement aside, Block Island’s twenty-five miles of trails provide a whole new layer of exercise and entertainment for you and your pet to spend hours of the day enjoying.
A handful of restaurants and other eateries are pet-friendly, too. Kimberly’s, The Harborside Inn, and Mutt Hut are just a few of the places you and your pet can spend some quality time off your feet as well. Don’t forget to keep a leash nearby at all times. They’re mandatory in public areas.
It’s important to remember that while every day might look like sleeping and eating and trying to get someone to play with them, your pets might need a vacation, too. A trip to Block Island packs in all the fresh air, sunshine, and fun on the beach that a good boy or girl could ask for.
