SUMMARY:Block Island Half Marathon
DESCRIPTION:This half marathon will begin and end at the Fred Benson Town Beach Pavilion. The beginning of the race heads north in a flat stretch followed by a gentle uplift to some steeper hills and turns. Runners will see the Great Salt Pond\, beach dunes\, The North Lighthouse and much more. \nAt the North Light\, turn back and get ready for a challenging loop around the beautiful west side of the island. Lots of hills and turns. Rolling pastures\, stone walls\, farmhouses and the beautiful blue Atlantic are the backdrop. \nThe last stretch takes you down Airport Hill and back to the Pavillion. \nOctober on Block Island is stunning!

SUMMARY:Run Around the Block 15K Road Race
DESCRIPTION:First organized in 1975\, the Run Around the Block 15K Road Race is one of the oldest races in Rhode Island as well as New England. The timed race is a hilly\, winding run along mostly paved roads with a stretch of dirt road that appears twice during the route. It begins at Isaac’s Corner near Fresh Pond and ends at Fred Benson Town Beach Pavilion where  there will be food\, drinks and a refreshing dip in the ocean available as well as bathroom and shower facilities. \nThe 15K race is challenging as the mid-day start can be hot and the course is hilly. There are water stops provided along the route and signage to direct you along the country roads. The rural seaside views along the course are beautiful and a great contrast to the bustle of Old and New Harbors. The finish line at Fred Benson Town Beach is within sight of Old Harbor and the ferries to Rhode Island and Connecticut.

SUMMARY:The Great Salt Pond Swim-9
DESCRIPTION:Swim registration will close July 26\, 2024 at 1:00 pm.\nThere will be on-site registration in 2024. \nThe Committee for the Great Salt Pond’s eighth annual swim\, known as The Great Salt Pond Swim 9–2024. \nThis will be a one (1) mile swim limited to 150 individuals\, starting at Andy’s Way Beach\, swimming out toward Beane Point\, and returning to Andy’s Way Beach. \nThe swimmer registration fee for the event is $60.00. Registration is now open. This is a great opportunity for first-time open water swimmers. The swim course is in a protected area with not much chop. In addition\, the swim will take place along a straight line\, marked by buoys. \nThis swim will be an annual fundraiser\, serving to support our efforts to protect The Great Salt Pond\, and provide funds for additional water testing in the recreational swim areas.

DESCRIPTION:This spring race (an island favorite) takes runners over a scenic 10K course with breathtaking views of beautiful Block Island. The race includes a little bit of everything: dirt roads with stone walls and rolling pastures\, a winding track overlooking the Atlantic\, and at mile 4 racers meet “the wall”\, a steep\, double tiered\, narrow climb.
