Block Island Ferry

Block Island Dogs

If you’re a dog owner planning a trip to Block Island, you’re in for a treat! The island offers plenty of activities for you and your furry friend to enjoy together. And the best part? Many places on the island are dog-friendly, so you can bring your pup along for the ride. Here are some of the top dog-friendly activities on Block Island.

On the Ferry

The Block Island Ferry allows pets on both our Traditional and High Speed ferries! On our Pt Judith Traditional, pets are permitted on board the ferry but must always remain on a leash or in a carrier. Dogs are not permitted on the seats or benches inside the cabins. For our Pt Judith and Newport High Speed ferries, pets are permitted in the cabin in a pet carrier only.
Dogs that are not in a pet carrier must be on a leash and remain on the outside decks.

Accommodations:

While most of the larger hotels on the island don’t allow pets, that doesn’t mean that there are not options for you dog owners out there. The Old Bakery Guest House (https://www.blockislandreservations.com/accommodations/old-bakery-guest-house) and Blue Dory (https://blockislandinns.com/blue-dory/) have rooms for you to share with your best friend. If you’re looking for something with extra amenities, Block Island Inns’ Cottages & Suites (https://blockislandinns.com/cottages-suites/) have you covered!

Restaurants & Shopping:

Food establishments on the island do not allow pets in their inside dining areas. However, most will allow dogs in their outdoor patio sections. A few places to check out are Poor People’s Pub (https://www.pppbi.com/), the Beach Bar at The Surf (https://www.thesurfblockisland.com/#menu), the deck at the National Hotel (https://www.blockislandhotels.com/menus) and Aldo’s (http://aldosbakery.com/). If you’re looking to get your furry friend and yourself a cold treat, look no further than the Ice Cream Place (https://www.facebook.com/theicecreamplaceblockisland/). A visit to the island isn’t complete without a visit to the Mut Hutt (http://www.mutthutbi.com/) so Fido can pick out their own island souvenir!

Activities:

With over 28 miles of trails, there’s plenty of places for you and your pet to explore around Block Island. From the North Light to the Mohegan Bluffs, your dog will find tons of new and exciting scents to smell. Also, every beach on the island is dog-friendly, year-round! Just make sure they’re on their leash.

When traveling with your dog, it’s important to be a responsible pet owner. Always keep your dog on a leash and pick up after them. Additionally, be aware of any rules and regulations regarding dogs on streets, businesses, and trails. By following these guidelines, you can ensure a safe and enjoyable vacation for both you and your furry friend.

Block Island is a fantastic vacation destination for dog owners. With its many dog-friendly businesses and activities, you can easily bring your pet along for the adventure.
