5 Things to Bring to Block Island

Maybe you’ve been planning to come to the island for a while, or maybe you just decided to come ten minutes ago (you spontaneous thing, you!). Either way, you’re going to need to bring a few things. We put our heads together and came up with a few things we think will serve you well whether you’re staying for a day or ten days or the whole summer.

1) A relaxed attitude

Block Island is all about fun and sun and getting away from the things that cause you stress. As you board the ferry, leave all that stuff on the mainland. Focus on the sea, the hum of the ferry engine and the salty air. If that doesn’t help adjust your mood, may we suggest a Bloody Mary from the concession stand?

2) A bicycle

Don’t be limited to only where your flip-flops can take you! Many people agree that the best way to get around the island is by bike. Even if you’re planning a day trip, you’ll be very glad you brought your own transportation. It’s easy to board with a bike and it only costs $3.50 one-way or $7.00 same day round trip.

3) A bag of essentials

Flip flops, towel, sunscreen, swimsuit, awesome summer novel…you get the picture. Pack a lightweight, easy to carry bag full of all the things you need to make your trip comfortable. Make sure to bring some cash since not every place on the island takes credit cards.

4) A camera

This wont’ be a hard one to remember since you probably have a camera on your phone already. In case you don’t, you’re going to want to bring one to record your special moments on the island. And that camera will also be very handy in helping win a chance to come back to the island for free! Have you heard of our Photo Friday contest? Check out our upcoming themes and watch Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for contest announcements. If you’re a contest winner, your ferry trip for two is on us!

5) A ferry schedule

What if you’re having a blast and you want to stay a little longer? Make sure you pick up a schedule so you’ll have departure times at the ready! Don’t miss the boat! Or, even better, miss the boat and catch the next one! Check out or ferry schedule here!

If you have everything on this list with you, you’re well on your way to fun in the sun. Of course, don’t forget to bring all the people who are special to you! The more the merrier!
